Notes

Taken from review off of "Allmusic.com" by Scott Yanow..."Although Lee Collins was one of the more talented New Orleans trumpeters and he spent much time in Chicago, he had very few opportunities to record as a leader. In fact his three albums consist of a very obscure effort for the tiny New Orleans Rec. label plus two live records for Rarities; all are difficult to find. The first of his two Rarities volumes has a pair of radio broadcasts from San Francisco's Hangover Club in 1953. The trumpeter heads a sextet also including Pud Brown on clarinet, soprano and tenor, trombonist Burt Johnson, the great stride pianist Ralph Sutton, bassist Dale Jones and drummer Smokey Stover. The band uses "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans" as its theme and performs a total of nine Dixieland and swing standards with spirit and some excitement. Both broadcasts are highlighted by a solo performance from its "intermission pianist" Joe Sullivan. This LP (along with Vol. 2) is recommended to New Orleans jazz collectors who are lucky enough to find it."
Side 1 - Hangover Club, San Francisco - Aug. 1st, 1953
Side 2 - Hangover Club, San Francisco - Aug. 8th, 1953
